What Is A Job Interview And Why Am I So Stressed Out About It?
What is a job interview? It’s really only a conversation about the one thing you know the most about…YOU!
The job interview is a step closer to reaching your goals. It’s the only thing standing between you and more income, financial stability, professional development and your career growth. I get it. That’s a lot to worry about.
And the pressure to perform well in a job interview can be overwhelming…
If you are unemployed, your savings are already stretched, you are hanging in there day by day and you don’t know how much longer you can rely on a rapidly diminishing bank account. You have responsibilities. You have bills to pay. Rent, mortgage, car payments, utility bills, phone bills, kids tuition. You have medical bills, credit card payments you can’t afford to be late on. There is so much riding on the job interview.
Perhaps you already have a job. Sure, you can stay right where you are but if you are ready to maximize your potential, there’s nothing worse than staying in the same place. You wait desperately for a chance to show what you can really do to move on and move up so when that time comes, you simply can’t afford to blow your chances in the interview!.
So many women I coach are in this position and I tell them all the same thing…it doesn’t have to be that way for you.
Job interviews do not have to be an anxiety filled process with sleepless nights and overwhelming pressure to perform…
And it’s not your fault if you are overwhelmed with the whole process. No one really teaches you the inside scoop on how to turn job interviews into lucrative job offers. Sure, there’s tons of free “information” out in cyberspace… the same stuff everyone else is reading. But you are savvy enough to know there’s more to it than the “5 Tips…” you read in the career column of the daily newspaper.
And forget about all those interviewing books… you read 150 pages and all you get is a bunch of theories. And the one I hate most. Those “Job Interview Guides” that promise you the “right” answer. Like memorizing someone else’s scripted answer is the key. Deep down, you know that the “right” answer is “your answer”. You know, the one where you sound authentic and genuine and YOUR personality shines through.
So, starting today, here’s how I want you to think about the job interview. It’s a conversation about you. It’s a conversation about what you can do for them (your target employer). You don’t need to be like anyone else. You only need to be yourself…at your best.
And the best way to do that is be completely, utterly and thoroughly prepared so when you walk into that job interview, you exude confidence, determination to succeed and the ability to deliver exactly what the employer needs to say yes!
